Our Interim Pastor

The Church of the Master congregation voted to invite Reverend Chapman to take on this leadership at a called congregational meeting on December 13, 2015.  Members of the pastoral search committee met with Reverend Chapman on December 22, 2015 where he accepted the position. Reverend Chapman began his official duties on January 3, 2016.

Reverend Chapman is not a new face for the congregation and most recently served as a visiting preacher this fall.  He also graciously partnered with Associate Pastors’ Joyce Butler and Julia Moses to deliver the Christmas Eve service.

Please join us as we welcome Interim Pastor David L. Chapman and his lovely wife, Rebecca to the Church of the Master family. Pastor Chapman and his wife are members of First Baptist Church of Greater Cleveland, and they have three adult children; Jessica, Jameson, and Jonathan. Pastor Chapman was ordained by the American Baptist Churches in 1984 and have a wealth of experience in ministry.  He has served as a Full-time pastor and a mission leader, with a wealth of experiences in diverse communities stateside and abroad.

In Reverend Chapman’s ABC profile he states, “I want to minister to and with a church that believes it not only has, but is a mission…I am looking for an opportunity to support a congregation that is willing to brave the adventure that is the Christian mission.”

Guiding Scripture: Luke 15:4-7

Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn't he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home.  Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says,'Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.' I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.

OUR CHURCH

American Baptist Churches are healthy missional churches that nurture devoted disciples of Jesus Christ who live their lives in mission and ministry for the healing of the world through
the love of God.

Statement of Dedication

We dedicate this church to be a church of the warm heart, the open mind, the adventurous spirit;

A church that cares, that heals, that guides; that challenges youth, that girds adults.

That comforts the aged;
A church as low as the humblest human being and as high as the ideals of Jesus;

That cleanses and challenges its community;

A church with its’ door open to people of every race and nation and creed;

A worshipping church, A working church, A church of the people,  A church of God,
A Church of the Master.
